He was born an artist. In school Rick was often admonished for turning in pages of homework filled with doodles and scribbles. At a very young age he emigrated from Cuba to United States and had to leave school and start working for his sustenance. He chose carpentry as a trade. If he didn’t have time to draw things, he could at least build them. At work, his ability for designing cabinetry was soon discovered and he found a way to combine his artistic talent with his work. He took technical design courses at the National Kitchen and Bath Association, became a Certified Kitchen Designer and established his showroom/design studio in Miami, FL. Soon he was recognized as one the best designers in the industry and received multiple awards from the South Florida Builders Association.
Over the years, as his business constraints allowed, Rick took time to produce fine art paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and pencil, amazing everyone with his talent. Upon retirement in 2017, he was able to leave behind technical drawings and devoted himself to fine art. He now can enjoy the freedom of capturing on canvas the beauty of his surroundings and the depth of his imagination. He has successfully exhibited in Art Serve in Fort Lauderdale, in the Hollywood Art and Cultural Center and at the Broward County Main Library. If you ask Rick when he plans to “really” retire he answers: “I will be painting while I can”
